Soup for Souls

Each month a community meal is offered by the churches in Brockville. Thousand Islands Baptist Church’s provides theirs on the fourth Sunday. Different meals are prepared each month: chili, stew, meatballs and rice, lasagna. These are accompanied by buns, coleslaw, dessert, juice, tea and coffee. To accommodate the number of people we need at least 6 or 7 crock pots of each main course. The lasagna is usually bought {2.27kg x8}.

They come for many reasons; not only hunger and a hot, healthy meal, but to socialize and linger with friends in a warm comfortable place. They are of all ages, families, couples and singles. They come on foot, call for rides, cars, e-bikes and motorized wheelchairs. They enjoy the music sometimes provided by a church family, sometimes ending up with an impromptu hymn sing.

We are fortunate that there are people among those that serve who sit and talk with those who question the church, the Bible, doctrine. It is encouraging when they come back for more. There are tracts on the tables for anyone who wants them.

If we had a mission statement is would be James 2:15-17,

If a brother and sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them. Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding you give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
